Open mouth, insert foot

It was a good day today. I was productive, all was good at work. Came home to a happy family, had a good dinner. Jakob's band concert tonight was very good, we made it on time and got good seats. My dad and step-mom were there to enjoy the evening with us. Life is good.

But all it takes is one foolish, busy-body remark to foul things up. Insert me. While talking with the mom of one of Jakob's friends after the band concert I decide to go outside of the general 'I'm fine, how are you' and decide to make small talk (or I thought that's what I was doing) and ask her how she felt about her son moving in with his dad next year. (She's a divorced parent.) Well, apparently the news hadn't gotten to her yet!! Red-faced, embarrassed, I wanted to dig a hole and crawl in. The worst of it was, the look on her face. She was going to cry and it was my fault. All I could do is say I'm sorry, I don't know what I'm talking about, Merry Christmas and move on. What the heck!! What was I thinking? Where did that come from? Why in the world did I bring that up!!?!! Jakob and her son are good friends but I can barely remember her first name.

Lesson learned, or at least I hope so. I now have some new prayer items on my list.

Oh! That's terrible. Not you, the whole situation. Though the story about that time mom broke the news to Timmy's mom... may be a little funny someday.

I hope their family finds peace and that if you can't avoid her, that you have wisdom with words.
